Finding Your Old You

Sometimes, we experience chronic pain, and sometimes there is no explanation as to why we feel a certain way. We get many symptoms we cannot explain, and no one understands, yet we must continue. Because acupuncture doesn’t need a diagnosis to treat your health, it can help you find your way back to your old self.

Acupuncture For Complex Pain

Modern medicine often offers medications, which sometimes don’t work, and sometimes bring unwanted side effects, whilst not always addressing the root of the problem. Acupuncture can provide a safe, drug-free approach that treats pain at multiple levels and from a unique perspective of different diagnoses. This often includes things like:

  • Migraines and Headaches
  • ME, Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia
  • Arthritis
  • Long COVID
  • Diabetes
  • Parkinson’s

And so many other things. Sometimes, when we aren’t given answers to why we are experiencing health complaints, and no one seems to know the answer, acupuncture can play such an important role.

Why Choose Acupuncture for Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain and complex pain are often complaints that aren’t treated easily. They’re different from acute illnesses or injuries in that they linger, often for months or years, and as a result, can feel harder to shift. Sometimes, they stem from an old injury or trauma that has mostly healed, but residual pain remains. Or sometimes, it throws our whole nervous system into dysregulation and leaves us with lots to work on.

Research, including recommendations from the NICE guidelines, supports acupuncture for chronic pain conditions. This often covers lower back pain, osteoarthritis, and migraines.

However, it’s also used in much complex pain where patients aren’t able to get answers from conventional healthcare. Acupuncture offers a different lens through which to view the body, using ideas such as the five elements, which help us to treat the underlying patterns rather than just the symptoms. We can use different perspectives of health, through our unique understanding of the body, to clearly see where things are going wrong. Often, it’s easily explainable from a Chinese Medicine perspective.

Not only this, but it’s about using the time we have together, in any acupuncture session, to create the space for you. To be heard, to be able to share the whole story without being rushed, and to have the space to be your authentic self. The simple act of listening, connecting deeply, often becomes a key part of the healing itself. It starts the body to shift, all without the need to use drugs or chemicals, and helps the body heal without side effects and often to excellent results.

In my experience, Josh is a unique practitioner of acupuncture. His depth of knowledge and experience is clear and admirable, but what most impresses me (as one who has received treatment from his hands) is the degree to which he uses this knowledge and experience to identify and clarify the problems his patients bring to him, to imaginatively choose the curative approaches they require and to continuously monitor the effects of those choices. In addition, Josh is endlessly generous with the sharing of his ideas and knowledge, which naturally builds confidence in his abilities. I recommend him highly.

Why Choose e For Complex Pain?

Chronic and complex pain requires time, patience, and a whole-person approach. My focus is never just on the site of pain, but on why your body is stuck in pain mode. Living with long-term or complex pain is exhausting, and it doesn’t just affect the body. It affects our minds, ruining our confidence, draining our energy, and making everyday life feel small. I understand this on a personal level, having found acupuncture through chronic illness, so I know what it’s like to identify with these conditions. It’s a lived experience that drives my passion to support you.

I love treating patients where conventional medicine doesn’t have the answers. They see many symptoms, don’t know where to start, and pass you around, hoping someone else will solve the problem.

Acupuncture is different. Acupuncture is about embracing the unknown, understanding your experience deeply, and using the different frameworks of treatment that we can see to identify a way out of the pain you’re in. Through this unique lens, we can treat and determine how everything is often connected. We can use five-element acupuncture, Stems and Branches, classical acupuncture, and so many other techniques to help you get the results you are looking for. I love blending classical techniques with modern research and understanding to ensure you are being seen and heard.

As a member of the British Acupuncture Council and British Medical Acupuncture Society, I am dedicated to offering the highest standards of practice. Not only this, but I share my experience and knowledge as a lecturer at the International College of Oriental Medicine, the oldest acupuncture college in Europe, where I also trained for my three-year course. Acupuncture can work by calming the nervous system, balancing the body's resources, releasing natural pain-relieving chemicals, and ensuring overall health improves. Often, just by improving things like sleep, digestion, and mood, we are already starting a domino effect that improves our health.

For me, treating chronic and complex pain is about helping you to find your old self, reclaiming your freedom, restoring confidence in your body, and rediscovering the parts of life pain has taken away. You may have tried everything. But you haven’t tried this.
